Richard Magerkurth

Richard Magerkurth age 82, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at his home.

Richard was born on April 26, 1926, in Rice, the son of Robert and Phebe (Porter) Magerkurth. On October 9, 1948, he married Emma Jones in Pinckneyville, and she survives. He served in the United States Navy, worked for 34 years as a skilled laborer for Pinckneyville Local 773. Richard was a member of the Dave Porter Band and enjoyed gardening. 

Survivors include his wife, one son: Ray Magerkurth of Willisville, two daughters: Margie (Jim) Stevenson of Pinckneyville, and Nancy (Mick) Brewner of Du Quoin, five grandchildren Jason and Chad Magerkurth, Jerid and Jamey Stevenson, and Dusty Mansfield, nine great-grandchildren: Trystin, Tymbra, Lauren, Audrey, Trevor, Braden. Austin, Brooke, and Sierra and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by; his parents, five brothers: Robert Magerkurth, Roy Magerkurth, Raymond Glenn, Melvin Glenn and Bill Magerkurth, seven sisters: Goldie Kuhnert, Dorothy Stern, Bertha Campbell, Fannie Dempsey, Elsie Kuhl, Rose Flure and Myrtle Rackley.

Funeral services will be held at Concord Baptist Church, Rice, on Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Clyde Dempsay officiating. Interment will be in Concord Baptist Cemetery, Rice.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Tuesday, July 1, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
